Forest School
Here at Holme Slack we are excited to have our 'Forest School' area to provide outdoor learning sessions.
Mrs Lenz is our Level 3 Forest School Leader who leads sessions for Y2-Y6.
Mrs Molyneux is currently Level 3 in training leading sessions within EYFS.
The Forest Schools sessions will be run inline with the Forest School Association Ethos and Principles and follow the guidance and risk assessments within the Holme Slack Forest School handbook. The link to our handbook is below.
These sessions are within school time and parents of the children taking part will be notified and given more information on when these will take place.
Parents will receive a consent letter within their school welcome pack to sign and return along with a kit list of required clothing and footwear for the sessions.
We endeavour to provide any items that families may struggle with and are lucky enough to have class set of waterproofs and wellies in select sizes along with full length fleece lined puddle suits for our EYFS group.

Outdoor Learning
Small group sessions of gardening and all things outdoors are run in the mornings with Mrs Lenz.
We tend to our allotment area, garden boarders and wildlife.
Foundations for Outdoor Learning
As a school we are working with the Ernest Cook Trust across the academic year 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 to ensure our staff and grounds are equipped to take our curriculum learning outdoors.
This will be a bespoke programme for our school, that Mrs Kirkham will be leading, to develop our outdoor learning linked to our curriculum and will be delivered through a range of remote and face to face support with their regional and national outdoor learning officers.
Training for staff and new resources will be available through this programme.

Nature Friendly Schools
Here at Holme Slack we took part in the Nature Friendly Schools Project in 2019-2021 to broaden our pupils learning in the outdoors. Enabling lessons to be taken outdoors in the natural environment.
Teachers are able to use Campbells Corner in the mornings area at Holme Slack School and all the grounds to teach various curriculum linked subjects.
